Clock: A device other than a watch for indicating or measuring time commonly by means of hands moving on a dial.

These are pictures of some of the steps I took to make a Walnut Desk clock, for a couple that was getting married.  If you are looking for a similar piece please contact me by going to the purchases page.

I selected this piece of wood from some boards I was using to make a headboard for my mother.  This piece of wood was not suited for the headboard, but immediately struck me as a nice bit for a clock.  Take note of the beautiful figure on both the front and back.

Cutting the profile on the scroll saw.

After the board is sanded with the belt sander to120 grit, the profile is cut on the scroll saw.

Sanding on the drill press.

I used a sanding drum to take out the saw marks from the scroll saw and to true up the profile.

I sanded from 80 grit down to 240 grit with flap sanders on the drill press.

Cutting the base on the scroll saw.

Before this step I belt sanded the top and bottom with a 120 grit belt in the belt sander.

Flap sanding the edge of the base on the drill press.

Again I flap sanded from 80 grit to 240 grit along the edge. Next I used the orbital sander to sand the top and bottom from 120 grit to 240 grit.

Rounding the edges on the router table.

After sanding I ran one side of the base through the router. Then I sanded the top and bottom from 240 grit to 400 grit.

After the sanding the parts are glued together.

The clock is finished in wiping polyurethane.
